Do I need an account to buy?
On Amazon, yes. On eBay, you can check out as a guest for Buy It Now items under $5,000. Creating an Amazon or eBay account.
Which screen reader and browser work best?
Use the one you know best. eBay recommends JAWS with Chrome, NVDA with Firefox, or VoiceOver with Safari on a Mac. For quick keys on this site, see the screen reader tips.
I am stuck on a picture puzzle or a verification code.

Paying
Can I shop without a credit card?
Yes. Both stores take debit cards; Amazon also takes a checking account, gift cards bought with cash and SNAP EBT for groceries, and eBay takes PayPal and Venmo. Paying without a credit card.
Can I use my Direct Express card?
Yes. It is a Debit Mastercard, and it can also qualify you for discounted Prime (Prime Access). Paying on Amazon.
My bank shows the same Amazon charge twice. Was I charged twice?
Usually not. One of them is often a temporary authorization hold, not a charge. Some banks keep these holds for up to 7 to 10 business days before releasing the money. If one does not disappear, ask your bank. Source: Amazon help: Authorization charges.
Buying
How do I know who is selling an item on Amazon?
Search the product page for "Sold by"; "Ships from" is right next to it. Items that ship from Amazon get Amazon's help and returns. Who are you buying from on Amazon?
I ordered something by accident.
On Amazon, cancel it in Your Orders before it ships. On eBay, request a cancellation within one hour. Cancelling an order.
How do I stop Alexa from ordering things?
In the Alexa app, turn on a 4-digit voice code for purchases, allow only recognized voices, or turn voice purchasing off. Alexa voice purchasing.
Delivery and returns
My package says delivered, but I cannot find it.
Check around and with neighbors for 48 hours; a description app can tell you what the delivery photo shows. Then report it in Your Orders or, on eBay, in Purchases. Delivered, but you cannot find it.
How do I return something without a printer or a box?
Many Amazon returns can be handed over at stores such as The UPS Store, Whole Foods or Kohl's with just a QR code on your phone. Returning on Amazon.
How long does a refund take?
After Amazon processes a return, a refund to a debit card can take up to 10 business days, and to an Amazon gift card balance a few hours. eBay sellers refund within 2 business days of getting the item back. How long refunds take.
Staying safe
Someone called or texted saying they are from Amazon.
Do not give them anything. Amazon never asks for your password, a one-time code, or gift cards. Hang up and check Your Orders yourself. Spotting fake calls, texts and emails.
Is it safe to let someone help me shop?
Yes, if you keep your password and codes to yourself. Let them describe the screen while you type, or use Be My Eyes. If you did share your password, change it afterwards. Signing in safely.
